Akwa Ibom sets staggered schedule for school resumption

Following the commencement of full academic activities for secondary schools from September 28th by the Akwa Ibom State government, a staggered schedule has been announced to avoid congestion and overcrowding of classes.

The Secretary to the State Government and Chairman COVID-19 Management Committee, Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem disclosed this on Wednesday, stating that secondary schools with a population of over 2000 students will resume at different days and time.

According to him, students in JSS 1 – JSS 3 will attend schools on Mondays to Wednesdays while SSS 1 – SSS 2 will attend from Thursdays to Saturdays between the hours of 8am and 2pm.

Dr Ekuwem explained that although primary six pupils had already resumed classes on Monday, September 21 due to their ongoing examination, other primary classes are to resume activities on October 5th.

He divulged the 2020/2021 academic calendar, saying that all schools will resume for the first term on November 16 and end on January 30th, the second term will begin February 1, 2021, and end on Thursday 1st April 2021 for the Easter break and the third term will commence from Monday 19th April 2021 and end on Friday 23rd July 2021.

Dr Ekuwem advised parents and guardians to provide facemask for their children as the COVID-19 safety protocols will be observed.
