JAMB shuts down seven Exam centres in Bayelsa

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) have closed seven examination centres across Bayelsa State for violation of its examination rules and regulations.

The Bayelsa state coordinator of JAMB, Abdusalam Mohammed who divulged this in the state capital, explained that some of the examination centres were delisted for duplicating the Virtual Private Network (VPN) of their router, while others were shut down for charging unsuspecting candidates outrageous sums of money during registration.

The Coordinator gave insight into the level of preparedness of the board to conduct the examination as coronavirus continues to spread saying, “even before the lockdown was lifted, we had started training our staff on how to attend to candidates. We have also embarked on sensitization of candidates and provided personal prevention equipment.”

Mr Mohammed further stated that candidates’ appointment was introduced to reduce crowd and body contact between staff and candidates during registration.

Responding, the chairman of NUJ, Comrade Samuel Numonengi, frowned at the activities of the delisted examination centres, adding that those actions are not healthy for the future of Bayelsa State.

The closure of the centres leaves Bayelsa state with only four centres to cater to about 24,000 candidates.
